Paul and Carolyn Jones
The Daniel Jones “Bleed Purple” Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by Paul and Carolyn Jones, in memory of their son Daniel Jones. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is a non-music major, involved with the athletic pep bands, demonstrates financial need, and has a positive impact on the Tarleton Athletic Band program. Daniel Jones was a passionate Tarleton Texan who really bled Purple. He believed that in order to get as much out of college life and all that there is beyond the classroom, he must involve himself fully in campus life. For him, this included being a part of multiple athletic bands, two softball teams, a flag football team, and fraternity life.
The Daniel Jones Delta Chi Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who has a minimum GPA of 2.85 for the semester, must be an initiated and active member of the Delta Chi Fraternity at Tarleton State University for the applying semester, be involved in at least one other organization on campus, submit a 600-word essay about how the applicant lives out the Delta Chi Charter and addresses life and the fraternity in a way consistent with the scholarship’s namesake and with a letter of recommendation from a Faculty or Staff member. Daniel Jones chose Delta Chi to fulfill his desire for true brotherhood, friendship, and support. He loved being a part of the fraternity and found that being a brother in Delta Chi helped him achieve his goals of honesty, integrity, involvement, and friendship in order to help him grow as a young man and prepare himself for life after Tarleton.
The Daniel Jones “Never Give Up” Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in January 2019. This scholarship is awarded to a Kinesiology major that does not already have an athletic scholarship. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and have a passion for Tarleton State University, be a full-time or part-time student in good standing with the University, be “coachable” and open to feedback on ways to succeed, be a visible advocate of the importance of taking care of one’s own personal health and wellness, and submit a personal statement explaining their “why” for their education. Daniel Jones was a passionate Tarleton Texan who enjoyed involving himself fully in campus life. He believed in engaging with fellow students from varied life experiences through different organizations and activities that would help him grow as a young man and prepare him for life after Tarleton.
