Major Burkett's Family

The Major J.W. Burkett Memorial Scholarship was established in 1964 by Major Burkett’s family. Major Burkett served as a professor at Tarleton from 1959-1962. While serving as a military advisor to the South Vietnamese Army in the summer of July
1964, he was killed in action. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding military science major.
