Joy Gallant Archer

Joy Gallant Archer

The Joy Gallant Archer Scholarship was established in 1999 by a gift from the will of Joy Gallant Archer. Mrs. Archer, who died at the age of 83, was a private individual who had little formal education and worked hard for what she achieved in life. Mrs. Archer appreciated the financial and moral support she had received from her family throughout her life and felt it was important to set up a system to provide support for young people seeking educational opportunities. Mrs. Archer was born in Kennard and was the fourth of ten children. Mrs. Archer pursued occupations as a beautician and real estate agent. Mrs. Archer was also a housemother at the State School for the Deaf in Austin. Mrs. Archer resided in Gustine until her death in January of 1999.
