John and Carole Lawson
The Luke E. Lawson Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship was started by John and Carole Lawson as a way to honor the memory of Luke at his beloved university and the place that became important to all the Lawson and Fox families. The fund honors the memories of John and Luke Lawson, who both set an example for everyone to follow about giving back and serving others. They are both missed by everyone who knew them. Luke was a first-generation student who graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Tarleton in 1990. He went on to receive his Ph.D. from Columbia. Luke served on the Tarleton Alumni Association Board of Directors for many years and was the President from 2015-2017. He also served on the Advisory Boards for the College of Science and Technology and the School of Engineering. He was the 2006 Outstanding Young Alumnus and the 2014 Alumni Academic Forum Honoree. Luke had a servant’s heart and gave back to Tarleton in many ways, because of what this university meant to him. He recruited many people to attend Tarleton, encouraged them to finish, and was there every step of the way. He never stopped believing in anyone and was always there for them.
