Friends and Family of Dr. Sara Tyler
The Dr. Sara Tyler Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007. This scholarship was created by the friends and family of Dr. Sara Tyler in an effort to assist students seeking a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading. Dr. Sara Tyler had a great love of reading. She touched the lives of countless students and teachers during her years as an educator, and her love of reading was matched by her passion for life. Dr. Tyler had been a member of the Tarleton faculty for 11 years when she died in a parachuting accident in December 2003. An Associate Professor, Dr. Tyler served as director of undergraduate and graduate reading programs, chaired graduate committees, and helped found the Master Reading Teacher
Program at the University. In 2003, Dr. Tyler was named posthumously as a recipient of the Ted Booker Award in Education by the Texas Teacher Educators Association.
