Family and Friends of Clyde H. Wells
The Clyde H. Wells Endowed Scholarship was established in 1987. This scholarship was created by family and friends in honor of the former Tarleton State University alumnus and longtime Chairman of the Board of Regents for The Texas A&M University System, Clyde H. Wells. Mr. Wells was a native of Stephenville and a graduate of Tarleton and Texas A&M University. He was a successful rancher and investor who contributed to the educational and agricultural systems in Texas. He served on the Board of Regents for 24 years, served as Chairman of the Council of Governing Boards of Texas Colleges and Universities, and was a director for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show, and the Texas A&M Research Foundation. The Fine Arts Center was dedicated in Mr. Wells’ honor in 1980. Mr. Wells died in January 1987. His wife, Mrs. Marie Wells of Granbury, passed away in 2009. Their daughter, Lana, and her husband, Raye Collier, reside in Dallas.
