The Betty Knudson Edgar Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2011 by Arlen Edgar in memory of his wife Betty Knudson Edgar. Betty Knudson was born in Waco, Texas in September 1935. Most of her early childhood was spent in Friendswood, Texas. She graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth, Texas. In high school, she became the Texas State Baton Twirling Champion. In 1953 and 1954, she attended Tarleton – then known as Tarleton State College. While there she met a student, Arlen Edgar, who later became her husband. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1956 with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. At Baylor, she was a twirler in the Golden Wave Band. Following study at Brackenridge Hospital School of Medical Technology in Austin, Texas, she received a certificate as a Registered Medical Technologist.

Following her marriage to Arlen Edgar in November 1957, she resided briefly in Odessa, Texas; Brisbane, Australia and for many years Midland, Texas. Before retiring to raise a family, she worked in the medical laboratories in Midland. She was extremely active as a volunteer in Midland civic, cultural and church organizations involved in the arts, history, education genealogy and religion. Betty Knudson Edgar passed away in December 2010. This endowment is established to provide financial aid to Tarleton students pursuing a degree in Biology and/ or in a field related to medicine.

Scholarships
